Dr. Colbert’s Top 10 Supplements for
Energy, Gut Health, Brain Function & Longevity

As a physician, I’m often asked: “What supplements do you actually take and recommend?” This is my short list. These are the core supplements I use to support energy, gut health, brain performance, metabolic health, detoxification, and whole-body wellness—without wasting money on hype.

I have spent decades helping patients reduce inflammation, heal their guts, support their brains, and age well. There is no magic pill, but the right supplements—combined with a nutrient-dense, low-sugar, anti-inflammatory lifestyle—can profoundly support the way God designed your body to function.

You do not need a cabinet full of random pills. You need a strategic, physician-guided foundation. Below you’ll find my Top 10 supplements I personally use and recommend, including several from my Divine Health line and a few foundational supplements I recommend universally—even when they’re not my own.

1. Fermented Green Supremefood® – Daily Greens, Gut Health & Natural Energy

Most people are simply not eating enough vegetables—and even when they do, their gut may not be absorbing nutrients efficiently. Fermented Green Supremefood® is one of my foundational formulas to support gut health, microbiome diversity, natural energy, and healthy elimination.

Because the ingredients are fermented, they are easier for the body to absorb.

2. Collagen Powder – Joints, Hair, Skin & Evening Gut Support

Collagen supports the joints, hair, skin, nails, and gut lining. I often recommend taking collagen in the evening to gently support the gut during nighttime repair cycles.

3. NAD+ Powder – Cellular Energy & Healthy Aging

NAD+ is essential for mitochondrial energy production and healthy aging. Levels naturally decline with age, which is why I encourage NAD+ Powder as part of a long-term vitality plan.

4. Wild Alaskan Salmon Omega-3 – Heart, Brain & Inflammation Support

Omega-3 fatty acids support the heart, brain, eyes, joints, and inflammatory balance. If you do not eat wild, fatty fish several times per week, omega-3s become one of the most important supplements you can take.

5. Fiber Zone – Gut Health, Satiety & Glucose Support

Fiber supports digestive health, satiety, cravings, and balanced glucose. When someone struggles with cravings or evening snacking, this is one of the first supplements I reach for.

6. Brain Zone Basic – Focus, Memory & Mental Clarity

Brain Zone Basic supports focus, memory, mental clarity, and neurotransmitter balance. As we age, intentional brain support becomes essential.

7. Nano-Glutathione – Master Antioxidant & Detoxification Support

I have been passionate about glutathione for many years. Long before it became popular, I was supporting patients with glutathione IVs and experimenting with early forms of oral glutathione—which, at that time, tasted like rotten eggs. That distinct smell came from the sulfur-based amino acids that make glutathione so powerful.

Glutathione is known as the body’s master antioxidant and master detoxifier. It plays key roles in cellular protection, liver support, detoxification pathways, and immune function. The challenge has always been absorption: glutathione is a relatively large molecule, which limits uptake in many oral formats.

Over the years I explored multiple strategies—NAC, reduced L-glutathione, and patented compounds like those developed by Dr. Herb Nagasawa—all designed to either boost glutathione production or improve absorption.

Today, one of the breakthroughs I recommend is nano-glutathione. Nano-particle technology reduces the effective particle size, helping the body absorb it more efficiently without the need for IV treatments.

  • Supports healthy detoxification pathways
  • Supports liver health and resilience
  • Supports healthy cellular antioxidant systems
  • Supports overall healthy aging

For this reason, nano-glutathione (drops or spray) is one of my top recommendations for people wanting to support wellness at the cellular level.

8. Zone Biotics (Probiotic) – Microbiome & Immune Support

A healthy gut microbiome supports digestion, immune function, and emotional well-being. Zone Biotics Probiotic helps support microbial balance and gut integrity, especially when combined with greens and fiber.

9. Enhanced Multivitamin – Daily Nutrient Foundation

Even with clean eating, modern life makes it difficult to get optimal nutrient levels. Enhanced Multivitamin fills common gaps and provides a baseline for energy, metabolism, and immune function.

10. Magnesium

Magnesium is one of the minerals I talk about the most in my practice. It is involved in hundreds of enzymatic reactions in the body and plays an important role in normal muscle and nerve function, relaxation, sleep quality, and cardiovascular support. In my experience, many adults simply are not getting enough magnesium from diet alone.

At the same time, a lot of people are consuming plenty of calcium—through food, fortified products, or supplements—without paying attention to magnesium. That’s why I emphasize maintaining an overall intake pattern that respects roughly a 2:1 calcium–to–magnesium balance across diet and supplementation. This helps support:

  • Balanced mineral status throughout the body
  • Healthy muscle and vascular function
  • Normal nervous system and cardiovascular support

Not all magnesium forms are the same. Some are more gentle on the digestive system and better utilized by the body than others. Divine Health is in the process of developing a magnesium formula that reflects the principles I use with patients every day. Until that is released, one of the products I have recommended in my practice is Orthomolecular’s Chelated Magnesium, because it uses a chelated form designed for good tolerability and absorption.

Whether you ultimately use a future Divine Health magnesium or a trusted chelated magnesium from another company, the key is to be intentional: support your magnesium status, pay attention to overall calcium–magnesium balance, and work with your healthcare provider to determine the right approach for your individual needs.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which supplement should I start with?

Begin with the foundation: a multivitamin, greens, omega-3s, and magnesium. From there, personalize based on your symptoms and goals.

Can I take all 10 supplements together?

Many can be combined safely, but I recommend adding new supplements slowly—one at a time—to learn what your body responds to.

Why isn't turmeric on this list?

Turmeric is one of my favorite botanicals for supporting a healthy inflammatory response. However, I already include high-potency turmeric extract inside Brain Zone Basic, which is why turmeric is not listed separately as a standalone supplement here.
