Avocado is the reason this drinks like a milkshake rather than flavored almond milk. It brings fat and body without any sweetness of its own, and it disappears completely behind the strawberries.

A word on the numbers. The original version of this recipe read as a single glass containing a full pound of strawberries, a whole avocado and a quarter cup of sweetener, which came out around 12.6 g net carbs. We cut the strawberries to 12 ounces, halved the sweetener and split it four ways, which lands at 7 g net carbs a serving.

That still makes this the highest-carb drink in the library. It is a legitimate treat rather than an everyday shake, and it is worth knowing which one you are having.

  1. Put the frozen strawberries, almond milk, avocado, shake powder and sweetener into a blender.
  2. Blend on high until completely smooth, stopping to scrape down the sides if it stalls.
